Lishan Gaoshan Wulong Cha (Lishan High Mountain Oolong Tea)

Zhang Xie Zhu

Lishan is a highly sought after high mountain tea and once you have tasted this tea you will know why. Mr. Chang’s tea brews into a bright, yellow/green gold color. The nose is rich and penetrating and there is a noticeable viscosity in the mouth.  There is clear “up front: power in this tea. The finish is long and persistent. Despite some late frost in the Lishan area, this Spring 2021 tea is a good example of what tea from Lishan should deliver.

Brewing Suggestions:

To prepare this tea in the traditional gongfu style use a gaiwan or Yixing pot and 6 grams of tea per 100ml of water at 212°F (100° C). Steep for 20 seconds. Reduce time to 15 seconds for the second steep and then increase with each subsequent steep.

For an 8 oz cup, use between 3-5 grams of tea, about a heaping teaspoon, for an 8 oz. cup. Pour water at 212°F (100° C) over the leaves and steep for approximately 60 seconds. Always remember to adjust steeping time depending on water temperature, amount of tea you have and personal flavor preference. Increase time and temperature slightly with each infusion.

Delicious! Golden liquor, rich silky smooth viscous stone fruit notes with some floral overlays. Very rich and fresh, Lishan as it should be.

  2. tillerman.tea (verified owner)

Made this tea Gong Fu style….12.8gr, 6oz 210 degree filtered water, rinsed, steeped for 20 sec. Very good, probably the best HML I’ve had. Beautiful golden liquor. Fresh taste and smell, Subtle floral notes, viscous mouth feel, lingering aftertaste that subtly changes as time goes on. Subsequent cups only get better. Seems to have a high caffeine content

I’ve tried HML’s from other vendors, this tea is a world apart from them. No idea how Tillerman does it. How can the same tea be so different between vendors, I don’t mean a slight difference either. Color, aroma, taste, all very different
